The Kia EV9 has been named ‘Best Large Electric Car’ in the 2025 Carbuyer Awards, adding another impressive accolade to its resumé.
The Carbuyer Awards assess every car on the UK market to celebrate the best across several different categories, including new and used cars. They consider a range of factors important to buyers, including running costs, practicality, performance and value for money, with winners chosen in several key UK car segments.
Kia is no stranger to success at the Carbuyer Awards, having had multiple award wins in previous years. In the 2023 Awards, the Niro family won ‘Best Small Family Car’, ‘Best Hybrid’ and the overall ‘Car of the Year’ award. Kia won three awards in the 2022 ceremony, with Sorento, Ceed and Niro PHEV impressing, and in the 2021 Awards, Sorento won the overall ‘Car of the Year’ award, like the Niro did a couple of years later.
The EV9 was praised by Carbuyer judges for its eye-catching design, premium feel and impressive charging performance, all well-known traits of Kia’s flagship three-row electric SUV.
“Kia’s impressive ascension continues with this Kia EV9 seven-seat luxury electric SUV. We love its striking design, which blends blocky shapes with contemporary twists, and it stacks up just as well when you get inside," said Carbuyer Editor Paul Barker. "A six-seat layout with individual seats is a clever optional extra, and everything feels upmarket – you’d never know a lot of its materials are recycled or made from bioplastic. Single and dual motor versions are offered, and its 99kWh battery and 800-volt charging tech mean public charging stops are speedy affairs.”
Since its launch in 2023, the EV9 has become accustomed to awards-glory and is the ‘2024 UK Car of the Year’ and ‘2024 World Car of the Year’, as well as recipient of multiple category wins from major UK and worldwide publications. Kia’s largest EV to date, the model is the second Kia EV launched in the UK under the brand’s ‘Plan S’ strategy, which will see the brand launch 15 EVs globally by 2027, which started with the launch of the EV6 in 2021 and will soon include the now launched EV3.
