KIA EV6 GT CHALLENGES FOUR GAMERS TO STAY ‘TILT-PROOF’ IN EXCITING STUNT RIDE

  • Streamers @Werlyb, @Carmensandwich, @Broeki and @Romainjacques joined the Kia #tiltproofchallenge
  • All participants experienced an increase in heart rate and changes in facial expression, meaning no player could avoid getting ‘tilted’
  • Participants rode in an EV6 GT at high speeds around a track with a pro stunt driver
  • In gaming lingo, ‘tilt-proof’ refers to the act of staying calm when something doesn’t go your way

In the latest video to showcase Kia Europe’s partnership with League of Legends EMEA European Championship (LEC), four gamers experience the high-performance Kia EV6 GT to see if they are ‘tilt-proof.’ In gaming terminology, a ‘tilt’ is the act of getting upset, and ‘tilt-proof’ refers to staying calm when something doesn’t go your way.

In Kia’s Tilt-Proof Challenge, a professional stunt driver drove around a closed track. A series of cameras and sensors measured the gaming content creators’ heart rates and tracked their facial expressions for any signs of a ‘tilt,’ or an increase in emotion. The results can be viewed under the hashtag #tiltproofchallenge.

No player able to avoid a ‘tilt’

In a two-minute video, streamers @Werlyb, @Carmensandwich, @Broeki and @Romainjacques are introduced, followed by the vehicle and the term ‘tilt proof.’ Dynamic driving shots of the EV6 GT cut with gasps, screams, and heartbeats from the players create a high-energy atmosphere which is further emphasised by dramatic music. Medic, a former doctor turned caster for LEC, provides the moderation, explaining how the challenge works and calling the players out for their ‘tilts.’

First up for the challenge is Romain Jacques, a French content creator for Team BDS. While he starts out stoic, a particularly intense acceleration causes him to utter an expletive, effectively counting as a tilt. Next up is Daniel Broekmann, a German streamer for NNO and Eintracht Spandau. When the EV6 GT takes off, his eyes widen and his mouth tightens, disqualifying him from the running. Jorge Casanovas, a Spanish streamer for Team Heretics, prepares himself for the challenge with calming breaths when the sudden acceleration of the EV6 GT causes him to let out a shriek. And Carmen Sánchez, another Team Heretics streamer from Spain, has perhaps the toughest time of all, giggling, shrieking, and exclaiming when the driver cuts the corner on a tight turn.

The four players emerge from the EV6 GT looking shaken and out of breath, and the video closes with a challenge to the audience: “What about you? Are you tilt-proof?”

Players reflect on ‘inspiring’ challenge

Following the filming, the players had a chance to reflect on their experience riding in a Kia EV6 GT. “That Kia has given me the opportunity to do this challenge has been incredible. These types of actions within the world of gaming are very inspiring and, to be honest, having been able to get into an EV6 GT has undoubtedly pushed me to the limit!” said Carmen Sanchez (@Carmensandwich). “Riding the Kia EV6 GT is a unique experience that pushes you to the limit.”

“It was super fun. I knew it was going to be a tough challenge because it has a lot of speed, but I didn't expect that much,” said Jorge Casanovas (@Werlyb). “I think it's evident that the Kia EV6 GT is all about emotions, which are uncontrollable.”

Fun challenge unites gaming culture with Kia EV6 GT

The ability to stay ‘tilt-proof’ is part of gaming culture. In a rage-inducing game like League of Legends, it becomes harder for players to keep their cool. To encourage good sportsmanship,’ the game introduced a system where players can honour their teammates for being 'tilt-proof.’ For every level-up in their honour rank, players can receive in-game rewards. Receiving an honour for being 'tilt-proof' is not only a sign of good sportsmanship, but also very rewarding for the tilt-proof players themselves.

While none of the players in the Kia challenge were able to avoid getting tilted, they did get a chance to experience firsthand what the Kia EV6 GT is capable of.

“This campaign was the perfect opportunity to bring two concepts together: tilt-proof, which relates to our League of Legends EMEA Championship partnership, and the EV6 GT, our 2023 World Performance Car,” said David Hilbert, Director Marketing at Kia Europe. “By challenging the participants to ride in an EV6 GT without ‘tilting,’ we got to showcase just how fun and dynamic the EV6 GT’s driving experience is. The fact that every single one of them ‘tilted’ proves what the EV6 GT is capable of – an exhilarating and dynamic driving performance.”
